Barefoot Centre Frame by Becky Blair
This collection of work has drawn from and been inspired by Becky Blair’s memories of travelling through Europe, North Africa, Asia and Australia in her twenties and thirties. The paintings aren’t from photographs, they are from the flickering multi sensory remembrances held in her body and mind. They are expressions of how it feels to remember a place, a place bound to a particular moment in time.
Becky’s last solo show in Perth was in 2013. Her life has changed significantly that time, which has quite a profound effect on Becky’s artwork and lifestyle.
“In 2014 I became chronically ill and over a period of 6 months became house-bound, two days before Christmas 2014. After being admitted to hospital, I was diagnosed with Lupus. This enforced period of recovery allowed a break from my painting practise. Time off has undone the constraint born out of expectation and previous success. It has loosed up my approach to mark making and pursuit of imagery, my work has more air and vitality. I feel proud of this body of work, the colours, fluidity and free expression in these paintings is a break through for me and I hope it brings a lot of joy to the people who come to see it.”
